Celtic
Cup 2007
Wales Celtic Champions again
21st - 23rd July 2007
In
the run up to the European Trophy in September
Wales were looking to prove they were more than a match for other
European teams. |
Their opening
game on Saturday against France was not promising
and despite pressing the French hard in the opening quarter it was
France that took the match
3 – 1. Only Ollie Coopers converted short corner giving the
Welsh any satisfaction. Click here
for a short video of this match. |

Wales
were given a real chance when Scotland beat France
for their first and only win. Ireland would be champions as long
as they kept a clean sheet.
|
Sundays game
against Scotland saw Wales in better form. George
Harris on goal ensured Scotland could not find the back of the net.
Some fine work by Andy Seimann paid dividends when he crossed the
ball into the D finding Ollie Cooper who did not waste the opportunity
and the ball went high into the Scottish net.

| A draw between
Ireland and France meant Wales was
just a point behind both of them and all three teams capable of winning
the Cup with a result on the final day. |
In
their final game against Ireland, Wales were under
pressure for much of the first half but with George Harris was on
top form in the Welsh goal they could not produce anything. Again
the Irish came out with determination but Wales defended well giving
Wales the opportunity to break. With nearly an hour played the ball
was moved out to the right. Ollie Cooper picked it up and skillfully
took it passed two Irish players and was then fouled as he entered
the ‘D’. Ireland only saw the ball as they picked it out
of the back of the net as he powered his trade mark drag flick hard
and low from the resultant short corner. |
Wales
are again Celtic Champions and with another win against
an A division side Wales look to be on target as they run up to
September in Europe. Click on images to see larger picture. |
