Wales lose 3-0 to England with a
hat-trick for Richard Mantell (Reading) on his return to international
hockey. In the 1st half Wales had a dominant spell of approximately 20 minutes resulting in a short corner for
Wales which England defended well. At half-time with England leading
1-0 Wales hopes were high to level the game early in the 2nd half.
Wales and England were both down to 10 men at the start of
the 2nd half and it was England who used the situation to their
advantage. Richard Mantell scored two more short corners to complete
his hat-trick, the 1st international hat-trick for England since
the Commenwealth Games in 2002.
Tomorrow (Sunday 26th) will see the second game and more effective
defending of short corners will give Wales the opportunity to even
the score.
